Pierwsza polska wysokonakładowa publikacja przedstawiająca historię muzyki "popularnej" nie tylko pod kątem Beatlesów, Rolling Stonesów, Led Zeppelin czy Deep Purple, ale również, a nawet przede wszystkim pod kątem dorobku grup i wykonawców alternatywnych: Velvet Underground, Milesa Davisa, Cpt. Beefheart, Residents, Throbbing Gristle. Za kryterium doboru płyt autorzy przyjęli nie jakość, a znaczenie konkretnych wydawnictw. Tym sposobem znalazła się tu np. płyta Milli Vanilli, a nie znalazła Janis Joplin. Można co prawda czepiać się, że o ile korzenie rocka reprezentowane są tutaj w sposób wyczerpujący, to brakuje nieco rozwinięcia w stronę nowszych kierunków: noise, post rocka, techno czy hip hopu. Jednak nawet bez tego książka przynosi materiał dostatcznie kompetentny i wartościowy, by potraktować ją jako cenną skarbnicę wiedzy. Wartość wydawnictwa bardzo podnosi rzecz naprawdę istotna. Mianowicie obok omówienia konkretnej płyty, znajduje się kalendarium wydarzeń politycznych, społecznych i kulturalnych, co pozwala dobrze umiejscowić płytę w odpowiednim kontekście i odnaleźć pozamuzyczne źródła inspiracji jej twórców.
