Cough is the commonest sign and symptom of respiratory disease and virtually everyone on the planet suffers a clinical cough at least once a year. It is the most frequent complaint to be dealt with by general practitioners. Until the last decade or so cough as been a clinical problem, lacking in research due to the apparent insignificance of the subject. However, in recent years, the pharmaceutical industry has woken up to the sales potential of anti-tussive drugs and products, and there has been a surge of interest and research into the mechanism, pharmacology and therapy of cough. This book makes the most recent, highest level research available for the first time. It has come about as a result of studies by Comenius University in Slovakia, which enjoys a distinguished reputation worldwide for its work on respiratory disease, but the fact that the contributors also cover extensively the relevant studies of their colleagues throughout the world means that Cough: From Lab to Clinic will be of value and interest to researchers, pharmacologists and health service professionals.
